The Iranian frigate IRIS Dena was sunk on March 4 by a U.S. submarine torpedo attack in international waters off Sri Lanka's coast, killing 84 sailors. Sri Lanka's navy rescued 32 survivors who will remain on the island. The country is repatriating the 84 bodies via chartered Iranian aircraft. A second Iranian warship, IRIS Bushehr, with 219 crew members, was allowed into Sri Lankan waters and is being repaired by Sri Lanka's navy. Of the 32 rescued sailors, 22 have been discharged and are held at an air force base. Sri Lanka is currently hosting 251 Iranian sailors total and will treat them according to its treaty obligations.
