South Korea's fires warning shots as North Korean ship crosses sea boundary
"The North Korean vessel crossed the Northern Limit Line (NLL) near the South Korean border island of Baengnyeong at about 5am local time on Friday (20:00 GMT) and remained on the southern side of the maritime frontier for an hour while also advancing up to 5km (3.1 miles) south of the demarcation line, South Korea's military said. Our military broadcasted a warning and fired warning shots, after which the North Korean merchant ship retreated from our territorial waters, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement."
"The North Korean ship retreated from the South's maritime control area after dozens of warning shots were fired by the South Korean military, according to authorities who also reported that a South Korean navy convoy was conducting operations in the area at the time of the border breach."

South Korean forces broadcast warnings and fired dozens of warning shots, after which the North Korean ship retreated from South Korea's maritime control area. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the military closely monitored movements and responded according to operational procedures. A South Korean navy convoy was operating in the area during the incident. North Korea had not commented, and the incident coincides with a scheduled North Korean official visit to the UN General Assembly.
