Snowboarder Chloe Kim is chasing an Olympic gold three-peat with a torn labrum
"I have so much anxiety, but thankfully I have matcha and there's good vibes here and my family's out here, so we'll be good,"
"I think once we're in there and once we're focusing on what we want to do, the tricks we want to do, everything, my mind goes completely blank,"
"I'm not thinking about my shoulder. I'm just thinking about what I'm trying to accomplish in this run. And yeah, it's been working out pretty well."
Chloe Kim won halfpipe gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Games at 17 and again in Beijing, making her a two-time Olympic champion. At 25, she is attempting a historic three-peat that no halfpipe snowboarder has achieved. Kim tore her shoulder labrum while training in Switzerland in late January after an earlier crash forced her out of a World Cup event in Colorado. The Olympics are her first competition of the season after qualifying a year earlier. She resumed training about two weeks ago wearing a very securely taped shoulder brace that limits trailing-arm movement and appears to steady her riding. Kim manages anxiety with matcha, family support, and focused mental preparation that helps her block out shoulder concerns during runs.
