Russia says Ukraine attacked Putin's residence, Kyiv denies DW 12/29/2025
"President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Russia's accusations that Ukraine had attempted to attack President Vladimir Putin's residence in the Novgorod region as "lies." In a social media post, he said that Russia was trying to undermine the progress made in the Ukraine-US peace talks and that Moscow was preparing to attack Ukrainian government buildings in Kyiv. "This alleged 'residence strike' story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia's own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war," Zelenskyy wrote."
"Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the alleged attack would alter Moscow's negotiating position and threatened retaliation."
Ukraine denies attempting a drone strike on Vladimir Putin's residence in Novgorod and calls the allegation a fabrication intended to justify further Russian attacks, including against Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote that Moscow aims to undermine progress in Ukraine–US peace talks and warned Moscow was preparing attacks on Ukrainian government buildings. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov asserted that Ukraine tried to strike Putin's residence and said the incident would change Moscow's negotiating position, warning of retaliation. The claims and denials occurred amid Zelenskyy's meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida on December 29, 2025.
