Rugby World Cup 2027 draw live
"Much has been said in the preliminaries so far but diddly squt has been decided. Instead former Wallaby flanker Phil Waugh, who tasted defeat in the 2003 World Cup final, and who is now the CEO of Rugby Australia and says tonight lifts the curtain on a very exciting time for Australian rugby. It'd be great to see the team go deep in the tournament and we have plenty of reasons to be excited."
"Tonight's draw will allocate the lower-ranked teams first and be conducted in band order starting with Band 4, followed by Band 3, then Band 2, and concluding with Band 1. For each band, the allocation of teams to pools will follow this sequence: First team drawn: Pool F Second team drawn: Pool E Third team drawn: Pool D Fourth team drawn: Pool C"
Phil Waugh is the CEO of Rugby Australia and previously tasted defeat in the 2003 World Cup final. Preliminaries have been active but no final decisions have been made. The draw will allocate lower-ranked teams first, proceeding in band order from Band 4 to Band 1. Within each band, teams are allocated to pools in the sequence: first drawn to Pool F, second to Pool E, third to Pool D, fourth to Pool C, fifth to Pool B, and sixth to Pool A. Australia is locked into Pool A as host and will play the opening game at Optus Stadium in Perth on 1 October 2027. Remaining team balls will be placed into four bowls representing the bands for the presenters to draw.
