A tsunami warning flashed across television footage in Sapporo after a quake affecting northern Hokkaido on Dec. 8–9. An advisory reading "Tsunami! Run!" and a warning for central Hokkaido's Pacific Coast briefly appeared over live port footage before alerts were later canceled. Japan Meteorological Agency official Satoshi Harada spoke at a Tokyo briefing on the quake. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi addressed the media in Tokyo following the event.
