"The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the central Philippines has risen to at least 91, while dozens of others are missing, officials said Wednesday. Kalmaegi barreled into the central Philippines on Tuesday, bringing torrential rains and gale-force winds. Most of the deaths have come on the island of Cebu, which saw the worst flash floods in recent memory in the province. Floodwaters swept away shanties, vehicles, and even shipping containers."
"Six people were killed after a Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed in the province of Agusan Del Sur on Tuesday while it was on its way to provide humanitarian assistance to provinces affected by the typhoon, the Philippines military said, without providing a cause for the crash. The OCD also reported 28 other deaths, without providing further details."
Typhoon Kalmaegi has killed at least 91 people in the central Philippines and left dozens missing. Most fatalities occurred on Cebu island, where catastrophic flash floods swept away shanties, vehicles and shipping containers and forced residents onto their rooftops. The Philippine Office of Civil Defense reported deaths from drowning, landslides and fallen debris across Cebu, Negros, Capiz, Bohol, Leyte and Southern Leyte. A Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed while en route to provide humanitarian assistance, killing six crew. At least 75 people remain missing, over 430,000 people have been displaced, and widespread electricity outages and infrastructure damage have been reported. The typhoon followed a powerful earthquake that killed at least 72 people and injured more than 140.
