A super typhoon made landfall on the coast of Aurora province in northern Luzon with sustained winds up to 185 kph and gusts up to 230 kph. Entire villages were submerged, dozens of towns lost electricity, and at least five people were killed. More than 1.4 million people were displaced into shelters or relatives' homes, with over 300,000 remaining in evacuation centers. Schools and government offices across Luzon, including Manila, were closed. The storm spanned about 1,800 kilometers and moved toward Taiwan, where heavy rains and further evacuations were forecast. Authorities warned of ongoing flood and landslide risks.
