"The firing by Afghan forces on civilian populations is a blatant violation of international laws,"
"By giving a swift and effective response, Pakistan's brave forces have proven that no provocation will be tolerated,"
"The situation on all official borders and de facto lines of Afghanistan is under complete control, and illegal activities have been largely prevented,"
Pakistan sealed the Torkham and Chaman border crossings after heavy overnight exchanges of fire with Afghanistan. Pakistani media reported its forces captured at least 19 Afghan border posts using heavy artillery, tanks, fighter jets and drones. Both Pakistani officials and the Taliban government claimed to have inflicted heavy losses and captured enemy positions, and the fighting has largely subsided for now. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Afghan firing on civilians violated international law, praised Pakistan's swift response and warned Afghanistan would be given a befitting reply. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said his forces captured 25 Pakistani posts and claimed 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 wounded; Islamabad did not immediately confirm.
