North Korea: Ruling party reelects Kim as general secretary
""the war deterrence of the country with the nuclear forces as its pivot has been radically improved.""
""Today, our party is faced with heavy and urgent historic tasks of boosting economic construction and the people's standard of living and transforming all realms of state and social life as early as possible,""
"However, he added that North Korea had overcome its "worst difficulties" since the last congress in 2021."
Kim Jong Un was re-elected general secretary at the Workers' Party congress. The congress credited improved national war deterrence to nuclear forces and announced elections to the central committee along with revisions to party rules without providing details. The Workers' Party congress, held once every five years, directs state priorities across housing, economic planning and war strategy and has convened only nine times under the Kim family. The congress was reinstated in 2016 after a suspension and is being monitored by neighboring countries for signals about nuclear intentions and willingness to engage in diplomacy. Kim pledged to boost the economy and improve living standards and said the country had overcome its "worst difficulties" since 2021.
