NATO defences destroy missile fired from Iran over Mediterranean: Turkiye

"A ballistic munition launched from Iran, which was detected passing through Iraqi and Syrian airspace and heading towards Turkish airspace, was engaged in a timely manner by NATO air and missile defence assets stationed in the eastern Mediterranean and rendered inactive, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday."

"Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan conveyed to his Iranian counterpart Ankara's protest over a ballistic missile fired from Iran and heading toward Turkish airspace during a call, and told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi that any steps that could further widen the conflict must be avoided."

"NATO condemned Iran's targeting of Turkey, with spokesperson Allison Hart stating that the organisation stands firmly with all Allies, including Turkiye, and that deterrence and defence posture remains strong across all domains, including air and missile defence."

Turkey's Ministry of Defence reported that NATO air and missile defence assets stationed in the eastern Mediterranean successfully intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile that had passed through Iraqi and Syrian airspace and was heading toward Turkish territory. The ministry confirmed no casualties or injuries resulted from the incident. Turkey formally protested the missile launch to Iran through diplomatic channels, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warning Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi against further escalation. NATO condemned Iran's targeting of Turkey and reaffirmed its commitment to allied defence. Turkey reserved the right to respond to hostile actions while calling for de-escalation of the conflict.
