Major WFH change looms for one million Aussie workers: 'Critical'
"Working from home is no longer just about convenience; it's a critical cost-of-living dividend for workers across the country,"
"By reducing the daily commute, we are effectively putting money back into the pockets of Australians who are currently battling soaring household costs and rising interest rates."
The Fair Work Commission has begun a final hearing on inserting a work-from-home clause into the clerks' award. The Australian Services Union seeks a clause granting clerical and administrative staff a presumed right to work from home when reasonably requested. If no agreement is reached, employers would have to provide six months' notice before forcing a return to the office. Union polling found nine in ten workers support a formal right to remote work, and 60% think WFH should be the default or presumed arrangement and that employers should not unilaterally end remote work. The union presents WFH as a cost-of-living benefit and a productivity advantage.
