"Newly appointed Prime Minister Ruphin Zafisambo on Saturday evening said the government "remains firm" and is "ready to collaborate and listen to all forces the youth, unions, and the army.""
A faction of soldiers joined thousands of Gen-Z protesters in Antananarivo, prompting President Andry Rajoelina to warn of an attempt to seize power illegally and by force. The elite CAPSAT unit announced it was in control of the entire military and declared that all military orders will come from CAPSAT headquarters. Protests began on September 25 over chronic water and power cuts and allegations of police brutality and have expanded into broader demands for political change. The newly appointed prime minister said the government remains firm and offered to collaborate with youth, unions and the army. The presidency affirmed the president remains in the country and continues to manage national affairs.
