Libyan military leader may have combat drones despite UN embargo
"The arrival of new combat drones at Al Khadim would be a huge symbolic win for Haftar, reinforcing his hold over the east and much of the south, including major oilfields."
"UN investigators reported that the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Russia, and other countries provided vital backing to Haftar, while Turkiye supported the Tripoli-based administration."
"Experts noted that while one drone was likely a Chinese-made Feilong-1, the question remains: who's operating them, given Haftar's LNA is not known for technical expertise?"
Satellite images indicate the presence of at least three drones at Al Khadim airbase in eastern Libya between April and December 2025. These drones are believed to be Chinese and Turkish combat models acquired by Khalifa Haftar's military forces. Ground control equipment for the drones was also observed. The presence of these unmanned aerial vehicles could enhance Haftar's military capabilities and influence negotiations for a unified Libyan government, despite concerns about his forces' technical expertise to operate them.
