Lando Norris won his first Formula One world drivers' title by finishing third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, beating Max Verstappen by two points in the final standings, 423 to 421. The result ended Verstappen's four-year reign and came after Norris crossed the line and learned from his engineer that he was world champion. Norris thanked his parents and congratulated rivals, showing emotion on the Yas Marina podium. McLaren secured back-to-back constructors' titles in Singapore and claimed its 13th drivers' crown, the first since Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974 and Britain's first champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2020.
