Volodymyr Zelensky said Vladimir Putin called Donald Trump last week because of concerns tied to rhetoric about Tomahawk missiles and Moscow's fear that Ukraine could receive long-range precision weapons. Zelensky connected the call to President Trump's Tomahawk rhetoric and to U.S. caution about escalation. Zelensky emphasized that European countries also possess Tomahawks and stressed that the central issue is not only which weapons exist but how they can be used, citing ATACMS as an example. Zelensky insisted Ukraine would target only Russian military facilities and avoid civilian strikes. Moscow's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called any such transfer unacceptable.
