"Polling stations opened across Myanmar on Sunday for the final round of voting with the military junta-backed party set to win the controversial elections by a landslide. The previous two phases, held on December 28 and January 11, were marked by low voter turnout of 55%. That's well below the 70% turnout seen in Myanmar's 2020 and 2015 elections, before the military coup of 2021. In the third and final phase, voters in 60 townships will make their choice."

Polling stations opened across Myanmar for a third voting phase covering 60 townships, with the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party already securing a dominant share of seats. Voter turnout in earlier phases was about 55%, significantly lower than pre-coup elections in 2020 and 2015. The party has won 193 of 209 lower-house seats and 52 of 78 upper-house seats so far, and the final phase is expected to cement its lead. Military chief Min Aung Hlaing has signaled plans to move into politics and is widely expected to assume the presidency. The military asserts it will remain central to national defense and security.
