An Israeli strike targeted Hamas's political office in Doha, marking the first such attack against a Gulf Cooperation Council member and intensifying regional tensions. Funerals in the coming days will indicate which Hamas members survived the strike. Hamas has maintained a political office in Doha since 2012 and continues to insist on a total Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and refusal to disarm. The U.S. ceasefire proposal calls for release of all 48 remaining hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, release of roughly 2,500–3,000 Palestinian prisoners, and an end to the Israeli operation in Gaza. Israel ordered a full evacuation of Gaza City while differing estimates place Israeli control of Gaza between 75 and 87 percent.
