"Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a news briefing that five Chinese nationals were injured, requesting that Afghanistan spare no effort in treating the wounded and take measures to protect the safety of its citizens and investments. China, which shares a 76km (47-mile) border with Afghanistan, has close ties with the Taliban government, and Chinese business visitors have flocked to the country since the group took control of war-torn Afghanistan in 2021."
A suicide bombing occurred at the Chinese Noodle restaurant in Kabul's Shahr-e-Naw area. ISIL claimed responsibility and linked the attack to alleged growing crimes by the Chinese government against Uighurs, also issuing further threats against Chinese nationals in Afghanistan. Afghan police reported one Chinese national and six Afghans killed and said the cause is under investigation. The restaurant served the Chinese Muslim community and was jointly run by Chinese and Afghan partners. China's foreign ministry said five Chinese nationals were injured and urged Afghanistan to treat the wounded and protect Chinese citizens and investments. China maintains close ties with the Taliban and increased business visits since 2021.
