Speaking during a visit to the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Araghchi added: [Iran's enemies] are talking about diplomacy today, even though Iran has always been ready for this option, provided there is mutual respect and consideration of interests."
Iran signalled readiness to negotiate with the United States as both countries prepared to send senior envoys to Istanbul for high-stakes talks on the Iranian nuclear programme. US warships and airpower gathered in the region amid threats of military action, while Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said talks could be imminent and that Iran's enemies had turned to diplomacy. US president Donald Trump said Iranians were seriously talking and hinted at a deal to avert strikes. Iran's president Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly ordered the start of nuclear talks. US envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to meet Araghchi in Istanbul with regional delegations from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt.
