"After three years of being unemployed and barred from working, I finally managed to release my album,"
"How does this contradict the collective interests of our people? I don't want to leave Iran, and I want to work."
"staying in Iran is not a favor to anyone."
Shervin Hajipour, 27, announced that his state-licensed debut album Vaqei (Real) will be released in late December after authorities issued a license. Hajipour was sentenced and later pardoned over his 2022 song Beraye, which became an anthem for the Woman, Life, Freedom protests. The album is set to be distributed by Arad Cultural and Artistic Institute, an organization that secures licenses and organizes concerts in Iran. The announcement generated criticism from supporters who view a government-approved release as betrayal after Hajipour accused authorities of denying him basic civil rights and work opportunities. Hajipour defended the decision, saying he had been unemployed, barred from working, and wished to remain in Iran to work.
