Iran to form interim council to oversee transition after Khamenei's killing

"An interim leadership council will soon be formed. The president, the head of the judiciary and a jurist from the Guardian Council will assume responsibility until the election of the next leader, said Larijani, the head of Iran's top security body, the Supreme National Security Council."

"This council will be established as soon as possible. We are working to form it as early as today, he said in an interview broadcast by state TV."

"According to Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution, a transitional council will be formed to handle the state duties until a new supreme leader is elected by a panel of religious leaders. That body is to be composed of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei and a religious leader from the Guardian Council."

Following Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's death in a joint US-Israel attack, Iran's security chief Ali Larijani announced the immediate establishment of an interim leadership council to manage the country's transition. The provisional council will consist of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Court Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and a religious leader from the Guardian Council. This temporary governing body will operate until the 88-member Assembly of Experts elects a new supreme leader, as mandated by Article 111 of Iran's Constitution. Larijani, a former parliamentary speaker and senior policy adviser to Khamenei, warned against secessionist movements and accused the US and Israel of attempting to destabilize Iran.
