Iran issued a warning that any US military action would render Israel and American military centers, bases and ships in the region legitimate targets. The speaker of parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, said Iran would act on objective signs of a threat and would not limit itself to reacting after an attack. Lawmakers openly chanted "Death to America" during a live-broadcast parliamentary session convened amid mass protests. The warning followed US President Donald Trump saying the United States was ready to assist Iranian protesters and suggesting potential strikes could be intense without deploying ground troops.
