Since the 1 February 2021 coup, the guerrilla movement grew as peaceful protests were brutally suppressed, pushing youth to join armed groups. The junta now faces both newly formed forces and longstanding ethnic armies. Fighting involves mortars, outflanking maneuvers, and strikes that have destroyed civilian sites like monasteries.
