Landslides triggered by several days of heavy rainfall swept through three villages in Central Java province on Thursday evening, killing at least 11 people and leaving 12 others missing. Recovery teams from the search and rescue office, military, police and volunteers, numbering more than 700 personnel, continue operations using heavy equipment to reach areas where victims are buried under 3 to 8 metres of debris. Authorities recovered two bodies on Thursday, one on Friday and eight on Saturday. Rescue operations face significant logistical challenges due to burial depth and difficult terrain amid the seasonal monsoon risk.
