Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited India on a week-long diplomatic trip after the United Nations granted a temporary exemption to his travel ban. New Delhi announced an upgrade in ties with the Taliban and plans to reopen the Indian embassy in Kabul following meetings between Muttaqi and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. A Taliban-organized press conference at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi invited only male reporters, prompting sharp condemnation from Indian journalists, media bodies and opposition politicians. India's Foreign Ministry said it had no involvement in the press interaction and that the event was organized solely by the Taliban side.
