"The horrific incident that happened in Delhi last evening has deeply disturbed everyone," he said. "The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice," he said. "Our agencies will get to the very bottom of this conspiracy," he added."
Indian police launched an investigation after a car exploded near the historic Red Fort in Delhi, killing at least eight people. The slow-moving car reportedly stopped at a traffic signal and detonated just before 7 p.m. Authorities shut the Red Fort Metro station and closed the Red Fort for three days, and several states including Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir were placed on high alert. Forensic experts are examining the blast site to determine the cause. Police are investigating under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh vowed swift inquiry and justice.
