Brazil's president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva vowed national sovereignty and declared Brazil will take orders from no one, denouncing rightwing politicians encouraging foreign intervention. Supporters of Jair Bolsonaro marched on Independence Day in major cities, many carrying US flags and posters urging Donald Trump to escalate pressure on Brazil's government and judiciary. Trump has imposed 50% tariffs on Brazil and announced sanctions against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is presiding over Bolsonaro's trial. Bolsonaro faces a concluding supreme court trial for allegedly plotting a coup after the 2022 election, with expectations of a heavy sentence. Eduardo Bolsonaro has lobbied US officials to target Brazilian authorities to try to prevent his father's imprisonment.
