'Hands off Greenland' protests draws thousands in Denmark
""to send a clear and unified message of respect for Greenland's democracy and fundamental human rights,""
""I am very grateful for the huge support we as Greenlanders receive... We are also sending a message to the world that you all must wake up,""
""Greenland and the Greenlanders have involuntarily become the front in the fight for democracy and human rights,""
""Greenland is not for sale""
Massive demonstrations organized by Greenlandic associations took place across Denmark and Greenland to oppose plans for US control of Greenland. Thousands gathered in Copenhagen's City Hall Square at noon, chanting "Greenland is not for sale" and holding "Hands off Greenland" banners before marching toward the U.S. embassy. Additional protests occurred in Aarhus, Aalborg, and Odense. A demonstration in Nuuk was scheduled for 4:00 p.m. local time, with protesters set to march to the US consulate carrying Greenlandic flags. About 900 Greenlanders registered intent to participate on Facebook; Greenland's population is about 57,000. Tensions rose after President Trump repeatedly insisted on acquiring Greenland and warned of possible tariffs.
