"In several countries this year, members of the demographic group born between the late 1990s and early 2010s have organized protests against inequality, democratic backsliding and corruption. The largest "Gen Z" protests took place in Nepal in September, following a ban on social media, and led to the resignation of that nation's prime minister. In Mexico, many young people say they are frustrated with systemic problems like corruption and impunity for violent crimes."
Several thousand people marched in Mexico City to protest crime, corruption and impunity, led by Generation Z and joined by older opposition supporters. The demonstration was mostly peaceful but some young people clashed with police, attacking officers with stones, fireworks, sticks and chains and seizing shields. Officials reported 120 injured, about 100 of them police, and 20 arrests. Gen Z protests have also occurred abroad, notably in Nepal after a social media ban that preceded a prime minister's resignation. Protesters demanded more security and better public services funding amid frustration over systemic corruption and impunity. President Claudia Sheinbaum accused right-wing groups of trying to infiltrate the movement and using bots.
