Cuba’s foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla challenged claims made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, including assertions that the Cuban regime poses a national security threat to the United States. The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed a superseding indictment charging former Cuban President Raul Castro and five other members of the Castro regime. The indictment followed months of escalating rhetoric from the Trump administration toward Cuba and other regime leaders. Raul Castro led Cuba after Fidel Castro became ill and later transferred power to Miguel Diaz-Canel in 2021. Florida officials across party lines denounced the Castro regime and praised the indictments. The Trump administration has threatened military action, while Cuba has vowed to defend against any U.S. attacks. Reports indicate Cuba has acquired more than 300 military drones and discussed plans to target U.S. interests, including Guantanamo Bay, U.S. vessels, and possibly Key West.
