A former British soldier has been arrested in London and appeared in court on extradition proceedings after Kenya issued a warrant over the 2012 killing of Agnes Wanjiru. Wanjiru, a 21-year-old single mother, was found in a septic tank at a Nanyuki hotel after last being seen with British soldiers. A 2019 Kenyan inquest concluded she was murdered by soldiers and Kenya formally requested extradition in September. The suspect, Robert James Purkiss, 38, denies murder and has received Ministry of Defence funding for his defence. He remains remanded in custody pending further hearings.
