"The FIA will always place the safety and well being of our community and colleagues first. After careful consideration, we have taken this decision with that responsibility firmly in mind."
"Bahrain's Sakhir circuit is only 20 miles (32km) from a US base that has already been the target of Iranian attacks. Some team freight is also already stuck in Bahrain, having been unable to move since pre-season testing, and understandably there is no appetite for having more equipment dispatched only to become unretrievable."
"Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are incredibly important to the ecosystem of our racing season, and I look forward to returning to both as soon as circumstances allow."
Formula One has cancelled the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled for 12 April and the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix scheduled for 19 April due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The FIA and F1 determined that cancellation was necessary to ensure the safety of all participants and personnel involved. The Sakhir circuit in Bahrain is located only 20 miles from a US military base that has been targeted by Iranian attacks. Additionally, team freight already stationed in Bahrain since pre-season testing cannot be moved, and there is no intention to send additional equipment that could become stranded. The cancelled races are unlikely to be replaced due to logistical challenges in securing alternative venues on short notice. The racing season will likely comprise 22 events, with a five-week gap between the Japan round on 29 March and the Miami round on 3 May.
