Everything we know about today's huge anti-Trump demo in London
"More than 1,600 officers will be deployed on the streets of London, including 500 assisting from other forces, the Metropolitan Police said. Donald Trump arriving at Stansted Airport last night The US president will not visit Parliament as the House of Commons is in recess for party conference season. However, campaigners will demonstrate against what they called our Government's choice to honour a man who is violating human rights in the United States and around the world."
"Deputy Assistant Commissioner Louise Puddefoot said: Around 50 protest groups are expected to gather together in central London on Wednesday, on what will be another busy day for officers. We have been in close contact with the organisers to ascertain their intentions, and we have engaged with local businesses and community representatives to understand the impact on them. We would ask all those taking part in the protest to be considerate to the local community, and ensure disruption is kept to a minimum."
Up to 50 protest groups plan coordinated gatherings and a march to Parliament Square, with the Stop Trump Coalition assembling at Portland Place and a rally scheduled from 5pm. More than 1,600 officers, including 500 from other forces, will be deployed across London. Public Order Act conditions restrict protest disruption and require the planned rally to end by 7pm. Road closures will be in place for the march. Police engaged with organisers, businesses and communities to assess impact and urged protesters to minimise disruption. Campaigners cited human rights violations in the United States as the reason for the demonstrations.
