"Rubio Urges UN Members To Take Action US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged UN member states "to implement snapback sanctions immediately in order to pressure Iran's leaders to do what is right for their nation and best for the safety of the world." He also called on Iran to "accept direct talks, held in good faith, without stalling or obfuscation.""
UN 'snapback' sanctions were reimposed on Iran at midnight GMT entering September 28 by Britain, France and Germany (the E3), increasing pressure amid isolation and economic turmoil. The E3 warned Tehran against escalatory steps and urged return to negotiations, particularly with the United Staes. The E3 foreign ministers said the reimposition is not the end of diplomacy and urged Iran to return to compliance with legally binding safeguards. The E3 recalled offering a limited July 2025 extension contingent on direct talks, compliance, and addressing high-enriched uranium; Iran did not meet those conditions or authorize IAEA inspectors. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged immediate implementation of snapback sanctions and called on Iran to accept direct talks.
