Armand Duplantis capped 2025 by being named World Athletics' male athlete of the year after breaking four world records, winning another world title and remaining unbeaten in 16 competitions. He criticized Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track for collapsing and failing to pay athletes their full prize money, and highlighted a separate tour's attempt to exclude field events. Duplantis expressed pride in representing field eventers and described a love of pushing himself and pushing boundaries. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won female athlete of the year and women track athlete of the year after winning Tokyo 400m gold in 47.78sec and contributing to the USA 4x400m gold.
