Do you want a player to die on court?' Tennis stars wilt in China heat
"Weather conditions have led to player complaints even as temperature is likely to rise through to Sunday's Shanghai Masters final. Novak Djokovic threw up, Alexander Zverev poured sweat out of his shoe, and Emma Raducanu quit her match with dizziness and the bad news for the world's top tennis players is that more baking weather awaits them in China this week."
"The 24 Grand Slam winner Djokovic labelled it very challenging physically on Tuesday as he battled the heat and an ankle injury scare to reach the quarterfinals. The ailing 38-year-old crouched over frequently in between rallies against Spain's Jaume Munar and vomited on court. After one unforced error, Djokovic dropped to the court and remained splayed out as a medic rushed over, before regathering himself to win in three battling sets."
Temperatures exceeded 30C (86F) and humidity rose past 80 percent at the Shanghai Masters, producing brutal playing conditions. Novak Djokovic vomited on court, crouched frequently between rallies and dealt with an ankle scare while reaching the quarterfinals. Holger Rune described the conditions as brutal and was heard asking, 'Do you want a player to die on court?' Alexander Zverev paused to change shoes after sweat poured out of them, and Emma Raducanu quit a match with dizziness. Jannik Sinner retired with cramp and Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the tournament. Spectators used fans and cooling packs, and players urged the ATP to introduce a heat rule at such events.
