Cuba president open to dialogue with US, rejects 'pressure'
""Cuba is willing to engage in dialogue with the United States, a dialogue on any topic... but without pressure or preconditions," Diaz-Canel said in address broadcast on state TV and radio. He added that any talks must take place "from a position of equals, with respect for our sovereignty, our independence, and our self-determination" and without "interference in our internal affairs.""
"US President Donald Trump previously warned that "Cuba will be failing pretty soon" after US forces kidnapped the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and claimed control over the country's vast oil reserves cutting Cuba off from its main supplier of energy in the process. Trump has also asked Mexico not to send oil among its humanitarian deliveries to the island, and threatened tariffs on other countries that do."
US prevention of recent oil shipments has plunged Cuba into deeper and more frequent blackouts, worsening an already fragile electricity system. Cuba's President Manuel Diaz-Canel said he is prepared to hold talks with the United States but insisted negotiations occur without pressure, preconditions, or interference, from a position of equals with respect for sovereignty, independence, and self-determination. President Trump warned that "Cuba will be failing pretty soon" and actions reportedly cutting off Venezuelan oil supplies disrupted Cuba's main energy source. Six decades of embargo and chronic mismanagement have left the grid in shambles, and southern provinces experienced overnight outages that lasted into the following morning.
