Crawford beats Alvarez to win boxing's undisputed super middleweight title
"I'm not here by coincidence. Canelo is a great champion. I have to take my hat off to him. He's a great competitor, and I have great respect for him. He fought like a champion."
"I don't know, I have to sit down with my team and we'll talk about it. I want to say thank you to all the supporters and the haters. I appreciate you all. Shout out to my fans and those supporting Canelo. We get to go home to our children."
Terence Crawford earned a unanimous decision victory over Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to become undisputed super middleweight champion. Judges scored the bout 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 after a 12-round contest watched by over 70,000 fans and millions on Netflix. Crawford showcased hand speed, precise footwork and tactical superiority despite moving up two weight classes and weighing a career-high 167.5 pounds. The win made Crawford the first male boxer to be undisputed champion in three different weight classes. Crawford praised Alvarez, expressed uncertainty about future fights, and thanked supporters and critics.
