The US President threatened military action against Colombia and described Gustavo Petro as a "sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States," adding "sounds good to me" when asked about a US operation. Gustavo Petro warned that any US attack would have severe consequences, including civilian casualties and a resurgence of guerrillas. Petro declared that arresting him would "unleash the popular jaguar" and ordered commanders who favor the US to withdraw from the public force. Petro invoked the constitution and said he would take up arms for the homeland despite having sworn not to after the 1989 Peace Pact.
