"China launched rockets and deployed warships, bombers and amphibious assault vessels around Taiwan on Tuesday in the second day of large-scale military drills aimed at rehearsing a blockade of the self-ruled island. Taiwan's Defense Ministry confirmed live-firing drills, adding that it detected more than 130 Chinese military aircraft and 22 navy and coast guard vessels around the island in the 24 hours until 6 a.m. local time (2200 GMT)."
"Chinese military spokesperson Shi Yi called the drills "a stern warning against 'Taiwan Independence' separatist forces, and...a legitimate and necessary action to safeguard China's sovereignty and national unity," state broadcaster CCTV reported. On Monday, China said the drills were aimed at "deterrence" of outside military intervention. The exercices come less than two weeks after the US announced a record $11.1 billion (9.43 billion) arms package to Taiwan, including missiles, drones, artillery systems and military software."
China conducted large-scale military exercises around Taiwan under the name "Justice Mission 2025," including live-fire drills across five large zones and rehearsals of a maritime blockade. The drills involved rockets, warships, bombers and amphibious assault vessels, with Taiwan reporting more than 130 Chinese military aircraft and 22 navy and coast guard vessels in a 24-hour period. Chinese officials described the maneuvers as a warning to pro-independence forces and as deterrence against outside intervention. The exercises followed a record $11.1 billion U.S. arms package to Taiwan and heightened regional tension after statements suggesting potential Japanese involvement if China acted against Taiwan.
