Renewed fighting has resumed between Thailand and Cambodia after a ceasefire that had been forced on both parties. A ceasefire imposed on both sides left underlying grievances unresolved and reduced incentives for a durable settlement. Because the truce was not mutually accepted, renewed hostilities were predictable rather than surprising. The current escalation carries a risk of the conflict entering a much deeper and more dangerous phase. Without mechanisms to address core disputes and rebuild trust, military engagement and regional tensions could increase, raising the need for effective diplomacy and conflict management.
