"flawed and farcical."
"The outcome of this kangaroo court is as predictable as it is unjustified,"
"My focus has always been my constituents in Hampstead and Highgate and I refuse to be distracted by the dirty politics of Bangladesh."
Bangladesh courts convicted Tulip Siddiq, a British lawmaker and former UK minister, in absentia for illegal allocation of a Dhaka land plot intended for a new township, sentencing her to two years. Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Rehana were convicted in absentia and sentenced to five and seven years respectively. A judge found Hasina misused prime ministerial power and found Siddiq influenced Hasina to secure the plot for Siddiq’s mother and two siblings. Hasina was already sentenced to death last month over a crackdown that killed up to 1,400 people, according to UN figures. Siddiq resigned a UK ministerial role in January and condemned the trial as flawed and unjust; her party says she lacked fair legal process and was not informed of details.
