Jamaat-e-Islami trailed with 42 seats in early returns. If confirmed, Tarique Rahman is the likely next leader of Bangladesh. More than 127 million people were eligible to vote. Polls opened at 7:30 a.m. and closed at 4:30 p.m. Over 2,000 candidates, including many independents, contested and at least 50 parties participated, setting a national record.
