Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, is dead, Trump says
"This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS."
"War will be met with war, bombing with bombing, and strike with strike. Iran will not submit to any demands or dictates."
"The supreme leader is effectively Iran's leader for life, per the constitution, according to the D.C.-based think tank Council on Foreign Relations."
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, who led Iran for over three decades following the 1989 death of founding supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini, was reportedly killed in a U.S.-Israeli attack according to President Trump. Khamenei had previously vowed Iran would not surrender during the 2025 Iran-Israel conflict, stating Iran would meet war with war and bombing with bombing. Before becoming supreme leader, Khamenei served as Iran's president from 1981 to 1989 after being hand-picked by Khomeini as his successor. The supreme leader position is constitutionally a lifetime role. No successor has been publicly named, and uncertainty remains about Iran's future leadership and the volatile situation in the country.
