Nearly two dozen world leaders will attend the three-day 47th ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, accompanied by multiple side meetings. ASEAN comprises ten members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, with a combined population of 678 million and GDP of $3.9 trillion. East Timor will be inducted as the bloc's 11th member; the country gained independence in 2002 and has 1.4 million people.
