"The WSJ reported that Malaysia had temporarily lifted an Interpol red notice against Low that would make him subject to arrest almost anywhere in the world to facilitate the return of significant assets to the country. In 2019, the US struck a deal to recoup about $1bn from Low, with the fugitive agreeing to give up a private jet and high-end real estate in Beverly Hills, New York and London among other assets."
Jho Low, a fugitive financier linked to the 1MDB scandal, is reportedly seeking a pardon from the US president. He faces corruption and money laundering charges in the US and Malaysia over alleged involvement in misappropriating at least $4.5 billion from 1MDB. The scandal began unfolding in 2015 and involved billions taken from the sovereign wealth fund. Low has denied wrongdoing and his whereabouts remain unknown. A pardon request would remove US criminal charges if granted. US officials said the request was not on their radar, while Malaysia’s taskforce chair urged denial and called for US assistance in locating Low for further investigations. Malaysia temporarily lifted an Interpol red notice to facilitate asset returns.
