102 Groups Call for Release of Palestinian American Child From Israeli Prison
"A coalition of over 100 U.S. groups is demanding that Israeli officials release 16-year-old Palestinian American Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim from imprisonment, warning that authorities are starving him and denying him medical care as they've barred the child from seeing his family for over six months. The groups called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to act to end Mohammed's "unjust" imprisonment in Israel's Ofer prison, a facility notorious for its abuses against Palestinians, including children."
""Mohammed's health is dire and requires your immediate action to ensure Mohammed is free, safe, and with his parents - his life is on the line. According to his attorneys, Mohammed is suffering from scabies and has not received any medication; he has also lost over 30 pounds due to Israel denying him food and medical treatment," the groups warned Rubio in a letter sent Tuesday."
Mohammed Zaher Ibrahim, a 16-year-old Palestinian American, has been imprisoned at Israel's Ofer prison while his family has been barred from visiting for over six months. A coalition of over 100 U.S. advocacy, civil rights, and faith-based organizations says Israeli authorities are starving him, denying medical care, and failing to treat scabies. Attorneys report he lost over 30 pounds. The coalition called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to secure his immediate release and protection for U.S. citizens, especially children. The letter was signed by 102 organizations, including CAIR, Democratic Socialists of America, and Jewish Voice for Peace, and by the family of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi.
