PhD students in STEM: Nature wants to hear from you
Briefly

Nature has launched its seventh global survey targeting STEM doctoral students to gather insights on their motivations, challenges, and experiences. The survey will examine various aspects of their doctoral journey, including mentorship quality, work-life balance, mental health support, and salary concerns. As funding cuts and technological advancements, particularly in AI, pose significant challenges, insights obtained could shed light on the current landscape of doctoral education globally. This effort highlights the need for understanding doctoral students' perspectives during these turbulent times, aiming to support better academic environments.
Federal funding cuts to education and research are already having profound effects on graduate and research programmes inside the United States - and elsewhere.
We hope this survey will show how the turmoil is affecting PhD students' attitudes and choices worldwide.
Survey-takers will be asked to rate key aspects of their PhD, such as mentorship, work-life balance, mental-health support and salary levels.
New questions probe how supervisors can best support their students and the challenges and opportunities that come with studying outside your home country.
