One in three Gen Z men want obedient women

"Digital ecosystems heighten polarization because social media algorithms reward extreme messaging. The most radical views of masculinity influencers and feminist countermovements tend to get magnified on social media, and young men are more likely to have a problem with women being highly independent or earning more money than them."

"Gen Z men hold the most traditional gender views of any age group. While 31% of them expect women to be obedient, only 13% of Baby boomer men hold such views. A similar picture emerges with regard to decision-making in relationships, with one third of young men believing that men should have the final say."

A global study of 23,000 people across 29 countries reveals a surprising resurgence of traditional gender values, particularly among Generation Z men. The research shows that 31% of Gen Z men believe wives should always obey their husbands, and one-third expect men to have final say in relationships. This contrasts sharply with older generations, where only 13% of Baby boomer men hold such views. Social media algorithms amplify extreme messaging about masculinity and feminism, influencing young men's perspectives. Gen Z men are more likely to feel threatened by women's independence or financial success. Notably, 18% of Gen Z women also support wifely obedience, compared to 6% of Baby boomer women, indicating significant generational and gender-based divisions in attitudes toward traditional roles.
